đ˘ Trump Orders Federal Workers Back to Office â While Working From Home
One of President Donald Trumpâs first moves after taking office was telling federal employees they had to return to work in person.
đ˘ What He Said
Trump has repeatedly claimed that government workers arenât productive at home.
- âI believe you have to go to work. I donât think you can work from home,â he said on Feb. 11.
- âNobodyâs going to work from home, theyâre going to play tennis, theyâre going to play golf… theyâre not working.â
đ But Then He Worked From Home
Just three days later, Trump traveled to Mar-a-Lago, his Florida mansion, where he stayed for most of six straight days.
- While there, he signed executive orders, held a press conference, and ran the governmentâall from his luxury estate.
- That same weekend, he did what he accused federal workers of doing: he went golfing. Between Feb. 14 and Feb. 19, he played four times.
đ° The Cost to Taxpayers
Trump isnât the first president to golf, but each trip comes at a huge cost.
- Since January, his golf weekends have cost taxpayers over $18 million.
- He has already hit the golf course 14 times in his second term.
- Trump has spent five of his seven weekends as president at Mar-a-Lago.
đď¸ The Hypocrisy
Some federal workers see a double standardâTrump is forcing them back to the office while spending his own time at luxury resorts.
- âItâs never about âthe rule,â itâs about whoâs making the rules,â said a Department of Education employee.
- âThe return-to-office mandate was never about effectiveness… it was always about control.â
Meanwhile, Trump and his administration continue to cut federal jobs while increasing the national debt by trillions, according to budget experts.
At the same time, Trump and Elon Musk, who now leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), have attacked government workers as lazy.
- âI feel very badly, but many of them donât work at all,â Trump said this week.
- He provided no evidence for the claim.
Despite pushing for government efficiency, Trump has spent most weekends away from the White Houseâwith more golf trips expected soon.
